Slow (Meditative) ritten 1982

I wrote this song in 1982 when I quit my traditional "career path" and moved to a remote farm in SW Colorado to be a singer-songwriter. I'd wake at dawn and watch the red-gold sun rise over the mesa. This song surfaced again for me during the long covid quarantine, as life slowed down immensely. I find that I like the slower, simpler pace.

Slow in a pinkish sky
See bird alight in the window
He’s calling me by my name.
Slow day coming on
Rooster crowing loud and clear
Pull the blanket off the bird’s cage
He’s just as much right to be here as I.
Slow, I’m taking in slowly
Just washing the sleepy seeds from my eyes.
Slow, I ain’t in no hurry

Slow days give my mind a rest
